Colorado Rockies: 1B Justin Smoak

The Colorado Rockies have a big decision on the horizon, as one of the best players in team history is scheduled to hit free agency next winter. Nolen Arenado has been an absolute stud during his time with the organization, putting up incredible numbers, becoming the best third baseman in baseball.

If the Rockies do decide to move on from Arenado, or are unable to sign him, they will likely look for another big bat to put in their lineup. They do have a pretty solid farm system, including guys like Brendan Rodgers, who is one of the better shortstop prospects in minor league baseball. They also have strong corner infield prospects in Colton Welker and Tyler Nevin.

Welker is a true third baseman, but Nevin has the ability to play both sides of the infield. Still, they are only 21-years old, and if the Rockies do see Arenado leave, they are going to need legitimate Major League bats, and Justin Smoak from the Toronto Blue Jays is just that.

Smoak will be 33 years old in the 2020 season, and has the kind of pop that would play very well inside Coors Field. The Rockies are one of the better teams in the National League, and should take another step forward in 2019, as they added a quality bat in Daniel Murphy this offseason. What 2020 has to hold is anybody’s guess.
