Antonio Brown trade rumors: 5 teams who should be in the mix
4. Cleveland Browns
The Browns are also a team clearly on the rise, finally, with Baker Mayfield leading a group of young talent. They also have ample cap space (just over $79 million, third-most in the league right now) to make some major moves this offseason.
Jarvis Landry was productive in his first season with the Browns last year, as he led the team with 80 receptions for 976 yards. But the next-leading wide receivers on the team were Antonio Callaway (43 catches for 586 yards) and Rashard Higgins (39 catches for 572 yards), and it went off a cliff after that and only tight end David Njoku topped 50 receptions (56) elsewhere in the passing game.
In making a trade for Brown, Cleveland can simultaneously make themselves a lot better and make a division rival weaker. A personal revenge angle, with facing Pittsburgh twice a year, also can’t be dismissed if Brown actually needs any sort of extra motivation.
With the recent signing of Kareem Hunt, and his own history in the draft, Browns’ general manager John Dorsey is clearly not afraid to embrace players who have some baggage. Brown’s baggage is not on the same level as some of those other players, rooted mostly in football-centric drama, but Cleveland should be in the mix for one of the NFL’s best wide receivers.
