Neither of these teams prepared for this match especially well at the weekend. Dortmund surrendered a three-goal lead at home to Hoffenheim, while Spurs ended up with a very flattering 3-1 win over Leicester in a game that they could quite easily have lost.
It’s a shame that the buildup to an encounter between two of Europe’s most attractive sides has been dominated by talk of absentees. For Dortmund, that means Marco Reus and half of their back line. For Spurs, it’s Harry Kane and half of their midfield, although Victor Wanyama came off the bench on Sunday and Eric Dier seemingly could return after a virus. Despite those injury woes, though, this would still be many neutrals’ choice as the most attractive tie in the round of 16.
