Fantasy Football 2019: Joe Flacco Traded to Broncos
By Bill Pivetz
The Broncos made an upgrade at quarterback by trading for veteran Joe Flacco. What impact will this move have on fantasy football?
The Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens needed to make a move at quarterback for two different reasons. The Broncos needed an upgrade and the Ravens had one too many. It was announced on Wednesday that Joe Flacco will be playing in Denver this season. How will this move affect the fantasy football values of all players involved?
The Broncos signed Case Keenum to a two-year deal last season. After his great season with the Minnesota Vikings the season before, it seemed like a good investment. Keenum threw for 3,547 yards, 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Keenum and the Broncos saw some ups and downs last season. He threw for 3,890 yards, 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions on 586 pass attempts. He was also sacked 34 times, the most in his career. The Broncos went 6-10 last season.

Emmanuel Sanders led the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns with 71, 868 and four, respectively. The lone bright spot was the breakout from undrafted running back Phillip Lindsay.
Before last season, Flacco started in all 16 games in all but one season. There was one season where he threw more interceptions than touchdowns. He isn’t the flashiest quarterback but with the weapons on the Broncos, Flacco can bounce back.
Willie Snead led in receptions with 62. John Brown led with 715 receiving yards and five touchdowns. The Ravens had a revolving door at running back with Alex Collins, Gus Edwards, Kenneth Dixon and Buck Allen all racking up over 100 yards. Don’t forget about quarterback Lamar Jackson and his legs.
In his nine games last season, Flacco threw for 2,465 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. He had a good start to the season with two 300-yard games but didn’t have any in his last five games.
Flacco does not have much experience playing in Denver. In three games, including one playoff game, he has 810 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions. At least he won’t have to face the tough Broncos defense again.
The move to Denver will push Flacco up a few spots in my rankings. Sanders, DaeSean Hamilton, Courtland Sutton and the rest of the pass catchers will get a boost as well. Unless Keenum is bought out and signs elsewhere, he has no fantasy value.
This is not a move that will turn a lot of heads but it will have an impact on fantasy football.
