Antonio Brown latest news: Steelers are ready to trade him

Antonio Brown clearly wants to be gone, and now Steelers owner Art Rooney II has apparently agreed it’s time to part ways.

Antonio Brown has used social media to make his thoughts clear about the Pittsburgh Steelers, and at times quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, in order to push his way to a trade. After some back-and-forth on whether he’d actually take the meeting, Brown has indeed finally met with Steelers owner Art Rooney II and had what Brown declared as a “great meeting” on Twitter.

More interestingly it appears Rooney agreed it’s time for Brown and the Steelers to move on and, obviously, part ways this offseason. It’s at best unclear if Rooney and the Steelers would classify it the same way, or will take time to declare that parallel publicly, as Brown continues to try to control the narrative with his social media accounts.

It also appears Brown and Rooney were not alone in the meeting, with agent Drew Rosenhaus and Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert in the room as well.

The Steelers are surely hesitant to trade Brown within the AFC North, or to the New England Patriots. So they are set to retain the level of control they have over the situation right now, by not allowing Brown to talk to other teams independently.

Apart from whatever role he has had in Pittsburgh’s ongoing drama, which he could be the face of or a symptom of depending on perspective, there’s no denying Brown’s production with over 100 catches and 1,200 yards in six straight seasons. His contract, with base salaries of $12.625 million, $11.3 million and $12.5 million, is very reasonable based on what he should be able to keep producing.

One way or another, the Brown-Steelers saga is nearing an end and Brown is in line to get what he wants. The question now is what Pittsburgh will get in a trade, and what teams will legitimately enter the fray.
