College baseball rankings: FanSided Top 25 – LSU, Vanderbilt vie for No. 1
By Ethan Lee
The college baseball season is underway, but who are the top teams in the nation? After Week 1, LSU and Vanderbilt vie for the top spot in the Top 25.
The 2019 college baseball season is officially underway. After a somewhat eventful and intriguing opening weekend to the 2019 season, it’s time to rank the top 25 college baseball programs in the country.
Coming into the season, LSU and Vanderbilt were the two teams that seemingly drew everyone’s attention. It’s not as if that is without good reason though as both the Tigers and the Commodores are two of the most talented teams in the nation. However, after one weekend of play, LSU remains undefeated with Vanderbilt has already lost a game in disappointing fashion.
The Commodores flexed their muscles a bit against Virginia and Cal State Fullerton, beating the two by a combined score of 29-18. However, Vanderbilt ended its weekend by losing to TCU 10-2. Looking at that loss and how Vandy gave up a ton of runs over the weekend, it makes a bit of sense to put the Tigers on top of the Commodores for now.

What team is in danger of falling out of the rankings?
Louisville opened the 2019 season up by losing its first series of the season. The Cardinals dropped their first and third game to the UConn Huskies and fell in somewhat embarrassing fashion. The Cardinals are a pretty good team and have plenty of potential, but they’ll need to improve how they play throughout the year.
Which team is close to climbing into the rankings?
Keep an eye on Cal State Fullerton. The Titans jumped right out of the gate and the TCU Horned Frogs. To close out their weekend, the Titans then edged out the Virginia Cavaliers. Cal State Fullerton did lose to the Vanderbilt Commodores by six runs, but there’s really no shame in losing to Vandy right now.
