College softball rankings: FanSided Top 25 – Florida State edges UCLA for No. 1
By Ethan Lee
After defeating the Oklahoma Sooners, the Tennessee Lady Vols, and the LSU Tigers with ease, it only makes sense that the Florida State Seminoles should be the top-ranked team in the country.
The Florida State softball team has earned the top spot in the college softball rankings. It’s not that there aren’t other really, really good college softball teams out there this year. The UCLA Bruins happen to be one of the best teams in the country and deserve plenty of recognition for their accomplishments as well.
However, Florida State just went through a weekend in which the Seminoles defeated the Oklahoma Sooners, the Tennessee Lady Vols, and the LSU Tigers, all of whom are top 10 quality teams this season. That feat is downright impressive.
And that’s what is putting Florida State barely above UCLA right now. The Seminoles’ performance this past weekend is incredibly noteworthy and it earns them the nod right here.

What team is in danger of falling out of the rankings?
Illinois really has no room for error right now. The Illini will have a hard time moving up in the rankings given some of the teams that are ahead of them right now and they can’t afford to slip up while down in Mobile as part of the Mardi Gras Classic. That said, Illinois is likely the best team involved in the Mardi Gras Classic and that could equal five solid wins for this team and a reasonable chance to jump up a bit in the rankings come this time next week.
Which team is close to climbing into the rankings?
There are several teams that actually fit in right here. Baylor, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Kentucky are just a few the come to mind. All of these teams have some sort of potential and these teams have shot themselves in the foot at some point or the other. They’ll have plenty of opportunities up ahead to prove themselves though.
