1. Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes are another team just on the outside of the playoff picture. A well-timed move adding the right piece could see them make it over the hurdle and into the playoffs come March. They just might be good enough to make it on their own but with teams like Pittsburgh ahead of them who are likely to get better down the stretch, they need to make a move. Owner Tom Dundon has a lot of influence on the team and has shown in the past he has no problem being aggressive.

It is likely that Micheal Ferland finds himself on a different team after the trade deadline. That will open an immediate need on the left wing. The Hurricanes would also like to add a center at the deadline, behind Sebastian Aho there is no clear number two center. As an organization, the Hurricanes are deep at defense and have nine picks in this year’s draft to put together a package to fill these holes for a stretch run.

If the Hurricanes can find a trade partner in the Atlantic division they can pull some good wingers. Ryan Dzingel would be a good Ferland replacement, while Derick Brassard would be able to give them a boost at the center position. Both of these additions wouldn’t cause the Hurricanes to move a lot of assets but would help the team greatly.

Carolina could feel comfortable enough to stay put with their left wing depth after moving Ferland to just target the center position. If that is the case the Hurricanes can make a big splash at the deadline and bring in a center to support Aho. Matt Duchene may be a little out of Carolina’s budget but Charlie Coyle from the Minnesota Wild would be a great addition for the team.
