Welcome back readers of FantasyCPR, we are back with our PGA DFS DraftKings plays for the WGC- Mexico Championship.  The Par-71 7276-yard golf course is home to this is a small field event with no-cut. Last year was quite the finish between Phil Mickelson and Justin Thomas. Hopefully we get a similar thrilling finish in 2019. Let’s dive into this weeks plays on DraftKings.

As a special thank you to Fantasy CPR readers, our friends at FantasyDraft have sponsored a $50 PGA Free Roll for this week to help you try out a new sport and product. Who doesn’t love free?

PGA DFS: 2019 WGC-Mexico Championship DraftKings Plays

$10,000 – Plus

Justin Thomas, ($11,800)

Justin Thomas’ last four tournament finishes were as followed: 2nd, 3rd, 16th, 3rd and now he back on a course where he’s finished top-5 in back-to-back seasons. I love Justin Thomas this week, at a no-cut event I think roster construction is going to lead us to a stars and scrub approach. Thomas had a tremendous Genesis Open despite falling apart in the final day after playing 25-plus holes on the final day. Thomas isn’t going to be my highest owned PGA DFS player this week, however I will be over the field on Thomas once again this week.

Pivot:

Bryson Dechambaeu ($10,000)

I like the savings he gets you off of Thomas. Although Bryson has never played here, I think he is going to be the lowest owned player of this $10,000-plus tier. Dechambaeu has not been dominate in the United States yet but he’s still had a 7th, a 10th and a 15th. Absolutely crazy that he is going to under the radar in this event. I am going to be overweight on Bryson this week.

PGA DFS: 2019 WGC-Mexico Championship DraftKings Plays

$9,900- $8,000

Phil Mickelson, ($9,300)

I’m skipping over the first two in this range and playing Phil. I love Phil in no cut events because the variance of his game is pretty much gone. We are in this game to score DraftKings points and Phil can score with the best of them. Unfortunately sometimes he likes to post big numbers. In a no-cut event the big numbers risk will not kill you. I love Phil this week. Although I do not expect him to win again, I think he is a lock for a top-10.

Hideki Matsuyama, ($9,000)

Matsuyama is my favorite play in this range and likely going to be a guy that I am going to lock into my lineups. He’s just back. In his last three tournaments, he’s just been on firing, posting 3rd in ball striking, 1st in strokes gained tee to green and 1st in green’s-in-regulation. Matsuyama is just the easiest piece to start my cash games and he is likely going to end up the starting piece in every lineup I build this week.

Pivots:

Xander Schauffele, (9,100)

Xander is the type of player that typically has one really bad round then is fine the rest of the tournament. If he can avoid the poor round, he is going to compete for the top of the leaderboard here. I expect Xander to be close to 5-percent owned in a small field. I will beg overweight.

Tommy Fleetwood ($8,200)

I cannot believe the price tag. Simply way to cheap for the upside. Fleetwood has a chance to win the event and he is simply way too cheap. Tommy has posted a 14th and a runner up here the last two years. Tommy has yet to post the really low round that he is capable of posting at any point. I expect to see it this week.

PGA DFS: 2019 WGC-Mexico Championship DraftKings Plays

7,900- 7,000

Gary Woodland ($7,900)

Woodland is likely going to be the chalk this week, but he worries me a little this week. I am leaning towards moving underweight, however, he’s got strong stats over the last 12 events. Course history isn’t great and chalk is something I tend to move off of in golf. Tough fade though. I play will definitely have Woodland in my cash lineups.

More from FanSided

Matt Kuchar ($7,700)

Kuchar is the easiest play for me in this range. Kuchar has been elite this season, course fits him great and he is way too cheap. All things set up for Kuchar to be in the winning lineup on DraftKings this week.

Tyrrell Hatton, ($7,300)

Surprised that he isn’t being talked up more honestly. Recent form isn’t strong missing two of the last four cuts. However, course history is extremely strong here with a top-5 and a top-10 the last two years.

Under $7,000

Emiliano Grillo ($6,900)

Stars and scrubs is the approach this week but is Grillo even a scrub? In the last 12 rounds, Grillo ranks first in opportunities gained, 6th in ball striking. Grillo despite having a rough go here two years ago is a completely different player. I love Grillo this week and sets up as one of the easiest pairings with Justin Thomas.

Alexander Bjork ($6,100)

I would not recommend rostering him a bunch, but I am going to have some shares at $6,100. Bjork is a guy that I am looking at for some salary relief as I believe he can play well here. Bjork hasn’t been in the U.S. since October. Doesn’t have to do much to pay off the bare minimum price tag.

Overall Thoughts:

The two golfers that I am going to play in nearly every lineup is Hideki Matsuyama and Tommy Fleetwood. Hitching my wagon to those two players in the mid-tier and spreading my ownership at the top between Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson. Leaning towards Phil and Bryson over Justin Thomas due to high price on Thomas. With everyone looking at stars and scrubs, balance provides an interesting approach in tournaments this week.
