At the beginning of the season, Cardiff were expected to be relegated. However, after two-thirds of the Premier League season, Cardiff are just above the relegation zone. The Bluebirds are 17th, one point ahead of Southampton. On Friday, Cardiff host Watford at Cardiff City Stadium. The Hornets are eighth in the Premier League with 37 points.

Cardiff would have been in the bottom three if not for a 93rd-minute goal from Kenneth Zohore. The goal came mere minutes after Southampton had scored an equalizer in the 91st minute. Zohore’s goal gave the Bluebirds a 2-1 win over Southampton, moving Cardiff ahead of the Saints in the table.  The win was the second in a row for the Bluebirds. At Cardiff City Stadium, Neil Warnock’s team has played significantly better. Five of Cardiff’s seven wins have come at their home stadium.

Watford defeated Everton 1-0 in their last game. The Hornets have played well lately, picking up eight points in their last five games, losing only to Tottenham. Watford have been successful because they have improved in their own half. The Hornets have conceded the sixth fewest goals this season. Up front, Roberto Pereyra leads the club with six goals this season and will lead the attack along with Troy Deeney.

Watford defeated Cardiff 3-2 earlier this season after the Bluebirds late rally came up short. The lone Welsh club in the Premier League last beat Watford on Nov. 29, 2014, when both teams were in the Championship.
