Round 5: Beau Benzschawel, OL, Wisconsin

The Cowboys were victimized by injury on the offensive line last season. In particular, the interior group really was hit hard. There’s a lot of optimism that Travis Frederick can return and enjoy a healthy 2019 season, but Dallas should acquire a little depth late in the draft.

Benzschawel isn’t going to develop into a Pro Bowler anytime soon, but he can push strong defensive tackles out-of-the-way on running plays. That’s enough upside to shoot for in Round 5 of the draft. The Wisconsin star struggles in pass protection, but that’s something that can be improved with coaching and repetition at the next level.

Round 6: Traded for Bene Benwikere

Round 7: Mike Bell, S, Fresno St.

Bell is a classic example of a guy who’s going to skip in the draft because he doesn’t have a great skill. Finding a guy in round 7 who shows multiple quality skills that should translate to the next level makes for a great selection.

Next. Cowboys need to avoid overpaying DeMarcus Lawrence. dark

In particular, we like Bell’s ability to use his length to knock balls away in the final third. It’d be great if he showed top end speed, but there’s a reason he isn’t going to be selected on day one. If the Cowboys are lucky enough to snag a player of his caliber this late in the draft they should celebrate in the War Room.
