Episode three of Insight is out and it focuses on Team Oyama’s Ron Scolesdang.
The Terphouse and Rick J. Lee have released the next episode of Insight, which puts the spotlight on Team Oyama’s Ron Scolesdang.
Following the format of the first and second episode of the new docu-series, fans are shown the daily life of Scolesdang. The opening scenes are of Scolesdang going through and explaining his typical schedule, which involves fight training and gym management while balancing family life.
UFC fighters Marlon Vera and Alex Perez also appear in the video, discussing the role Scolesdang plays in their fight life.
The entire episode can be seen above.
Scolesdang revealed how he got into mixed martial arts and it started with watching an episode of The Ultimate Fighter.
“In high school, my senior year, I saw the Ultimate Fighter and something clicked. I was like, ‘I want to do that’,” said Scolesdang. “I’ve been doing it literally ever since.”
Scolesdang went on to discuss his career, but after losing a fight, he found himself at a crossroads. For Scolesdang, finding purpose again started when he became the general manager of Team Oyama, which allowed him to help not only himself but his teammates.
Scolesdang was worried that if it weren’t for him putting his time and effort into the gym, it would close, leaving many without the place they know as a “second home”.
“I found purpose in life and I found that purpose was to help others through MMA and fitness,” said Scolesdang. “I’m able to help people lose weight, gain confidence, [and] prep them for fights.”
In terms of his professional career, Scolesdang has been unable to compete as he suffered a number of various injuries, including a torn ACL, that have kept him outside of the cage since 2015.
But that all ends on March 9. Scolesdang makes his return at California Xtreme Fighting (CXF) against Benji Gomez.
“It means so much for me to be able to come back and perform and fight,” said Scolesdang. “And how many peole get to fulfill their dreams? I’ve been wanting to do this since I was a little kid and I’ll be honest, my heart was a little broken when I felt like I wasn’t able to do it anymore. But now that I’m back? Like holy crap. My smile is as big as ever.”
CXF 17 goes down on March 9, 2019 at the Sportsmen Lodge in Studio City, California.
