SEC baseball: Early 2019 winners, losers and questions left unanswered
With two weekends down in the 2019 SEC Baseball season, we received our first meaningful results of the year this past weekend.
The 2019 SEC Baseball season is underway, and every team has played at least two weekends worth of games and teams are beginning to reveal who they are.
There have been some noteworthy results so far, especially for a few SEC baseball teams from this past weekend. While conference play is still a few weeks away, some of the teams did play teams that should figure prominently in the postseason.
Some of the notable teams SEC baseball went against this past weekend included Tulane, Central Florida, Indiana, Southern Miss, Miami and Texas Tech. Only three of those teams play in Power Five conferences, but each of those teams not in Power Five conferences is expected to be in contention for their conference titles or to be in the mix for a spot in a regional in the 2019 season.
While we did get some nice non-conference matchups this past weekend, there were still some cupcakes on the schedule. Every SEC baseball team should have at least one relatively difficult opponent on their schedule before conference play starts in March. So if we don’t have enough to make early season judgments on one team at this point, it will not be too long before we get there.
For now, here are some teams which have impressed, fallen flat, or just flat-out left us guessing for the early part of the 2019 SEC baseball season.
