2. Detroit Lions

Like many other teams in the league, the Lions are in need of help on the defensive line. Some mock drafts have them addressing the issue with someone like Jachai Polite or Brian Burns, but many think it would be smarter for them to shore up the defensive line in free agency. Running the risk of waiting until the draft to address the need leaves the team vulnerable to missing out on players as the draft is nearly impossible to predict.

Trey Flowers would instantly stabilize the defensive line, and would give the Lions some more breathing room and a solid building block for the next couple years. With the Ezekiel Ansah situation still up in the air due to his injury timetable, the Lions could absolutely use the insurance of acquiring a player like Flowers.

If the Lions are able to work something out with Ansah and keep him in the fold via an extension or franchise tag, bringing in Flowers would create quite a dynamic duo. It also makes sense because Matt Patricia, the head coach of the Lions, was Flowers defensive coordinator in New England.

The connection, need, and cap space makes Detroit a very reasonable fit for Flowers. One thing that could push Flowers away however, it Detroit’s inability to compete in a very tough NFC North Division. At the end of the day, it just comes down to what Flowers desires more, money or winning?
