The Toronto Raptors continue their season-long homestand against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, and it will be a big one for both teams.
The Toronto Raptors and Boston Celtics are going in opposite directions, but their clash on Tuesday night will be a big one for both teams.
The Raptors are in the middle of a season-long seven game homestand, most of which have been too close for comfort for a team that has aspirations of playing for an NBA championship in June. Toronto opened the homestand with a nail-biting win over the Brooklyn Nets, then staved-off the struggling Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs before the house came down on Sunday.
On that day, the Orlando Magic walked into Scotiabank Arena and whooped them, 113-98, which has put some doubt as to whether the Raptors are for real in their quest to reach the Finals this season. The Raptors are still two-and-a-half games in back of the dominate Milwaukee Bucks for the top seed, but to keep pace, they’ll need to finally overcome the Boston Celtics.
Speaking of the Celtics, they have greatly underperformed this season.
Thought of as the favorite to make it out of the East this season, the Celtics haven’t really played up to their potential all season long. Their play on the road has especially been disappointing, sitting with a 14-15 record away from TD Garden.

This game is huge for Kyrie Irving and the Celtics. Sitting in fifth place with a 37-23 record, Boston needs a win in Toronto to pull within striking distance of the Philadelphia 76ers for the fourth seed. Currently, Boston is two-and-a-half games back. Fortunately for them, they have had the Raptors number of late, with their latest win over their rivals from the North coming last month in a 117-108 victory at TD Garden
