College softball rankings: FanSided Top 25 – Florida State still the best
By Ethan Lee
The Florida State Seminoles are still the best team in college softball, but UCLA and Florida aren’t too far behind.
Florida State, UCLA, and Florida are all still undefeated and are all still the top three ranked college softball teams in the country this week. After solid performances for the three juggernauts, the Seminoles, Bruins, and Gators still sit at the top of their perch, ranked from 1st to 3rd in that order.
Washington, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Tennessee all stayed put as well, meaning there was absolutely zero movement in the top seven ranked teams in the country this week. But, just below that, there was plenty of shuffling.
LSU leapfrogged Arkansas and Georgia claimed the No. 10 spot after it was vacated by the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. So, here’s how the rankings shake out from there.

What team is in danger of falling out?
Oregon and Missouri can’t really afford to continue the rough stretch that they’re both on at the moment. The Ducks have dropped down to No. 24 from No. 18 after appearing rather unimpressive in the Mary Nutter Classic. Losing to Bethune Cookman and then getting shutout by Texas Tech isn’t really all that awe-inspiring of a performance.
Mizzou, now at No. 25 from No. 17, had an even worse showing in the Mary Nutter Classic. The Tigers lost to BYU, UCLA, and Washington by a combined score of 24-9. Now, those are all solid teams, with two of those teams being two of the best in the country, but the Tigers barely put up a fight.
Which team is close to climbing into the rankings?
The Northwestern Wildcats are so close to breaking into the FanSided College Softball Top 25 rankings. Had they found a way to get past the Washington Huskies this past weekend, Northwestern would be in. As it stands, it’s impressive that the Wildcats only lost to the No. 4 team in the country by two runs. Northwestern could be a team that makes things interesting for the Big Ten this season.
