4. Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a Super Bowl appearance where things just didn’t click, but the defense was far from the issue. Mysterious injuries and odd play calling caused them to score just three points in the biggest game of the season. Obviously, that’s what Sean McVay and company will focus on in the offseason, but there are reasons safety could eventually be a target.

They are likely losing Lamarcus Joyner in free agency, and can replace him with Clinton-Dix who’s younger and might have a higher ceiling for the next five years. The money will clearly be an issue, as the Rams are expected to have $27 million in space, but they soon need to pay Jared Goff, so long-term deals will hurt in the long run.

Clinton-Dix is expected to sign between a four and five-year deal for close to $10 million per season. After signing draft picks, that really takes away from flexibility to make any other moves. However, if the Rams believe they have a Super Bowl caliber team that just had an off night, Clinton-Dix might be seen as the player who could keep the good times rolling.

With major changes on the horizon for this secondary, it might be in the team’s best interest to give Clinton-Dix the money. This may be a surprise to some, but it fills a need they will have if Joyner leaves, and they have just enough money to pay him market value.
