1. Kansas City Chiefs

This one seems far fetched, but let’s look at the facts. The Kansas City Chiefs still have Eric Berry, but he isn’t the player he once was. Rumor has it the Chiefs could look to move on after years of injury-riddled seasons. It all depends on how much this front office is looking at this as a business.

If the Chiefs cut Berry after June 1, they would save $9.5 million dollars this season. He’s coming with a $16 million cap hit, which really hurts when a team is playing with just $23 million this offseason. Basically, they can turn Berry’s cap savings into a contract for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who’s younger and much less injury prone and can do similar things to what Berry can do at this point in his career.

It seems like a weird move to get rid of a beloved player on your roster just to replace his money with someone else, but the Chiefs are Super Bowl contenders now and relying on Berry every season may not be worth the gamble. They can’t afford to go into next season relying on a broken player, and that might be what we’re dealing with in Berry.

Of course, if the Chiefs want to give it another go with Berry knowing there is no dead money on his contract next season, then there’s no way they can afford Clinton-Dix. However, there’s a real possibility the Chiefs will want to have a really good safety to try and finally unseat the New England Patriots but know that relying on Berry may be a devastating idea. It’s hard for a player who embodied what the Chiefs want, but the fans could learn to love Clinton-Dix.
