The Oklahoma City Thunder will ride into Denver on Tuesday to try to gain ground on a Nuggets team that has become unbeatable at home.

The Oklahoma City Thunder will try to do something on Tuesday night that no team hasn’t accomplished since the middle of January — beat the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center.

The Thunder will have to accomplish this almost impossible goal if they want to have an outside chance of catching the Golden State Warriors for the number one seed in the Western Conference. OKC, led by MVP-candidate Paul George and “Mr. Triple Double” Russell Westbrook, has had a surging season so far, sitting pretty with a 38-21 record.

But their current seeding, third, has them in a matchup with the Utah Jazz in the first round of the playoffs started today. Not that OKC is afraid of the Jazz or anything, and would probably love to pay them back from that chippy series a year ago. However, by climbing up to the top two seeds, they could have a potential matchup with the rebuilding Los Angeles Clippers or the defensive-leaking San Antonio Spurs.

Which is why their game tonight with the Nuggets in Denver is so important.

Denver sits three-and-a-half games in front of the Thunder, led by an ensemble cast surrounding All-Star Nikola Jokic. Offensively potent and underrated defensively, the Nuggets are proving that their early season hot start was definitely not a fluke, and should be looked at as a real contender in the West, especially if they can either keep hold of the second seed or leap the Warriors for the first seed.
