A certain future Hall-of-Famer is coming out of retirement, and the Twitter world has taken it and run with it.
Former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has decided to come out of retirement and return to the Cowboys for the 2019 season, and, predictably, folks on Twitter are going crazy.

Much had been made of Witten’s performance in the broadcast booth during the 2018 season. He received plenty of criticism for his play-by-play analysis in the Monday Night Football booth with Joe Tessitore. So naturally, many MNF viewers will be grateful for Witten’s decision to return to the playing field.

Fans of Monday Night Football.
Sports business reporter Darren Rovell captured the downside to Witten coming out of retirement. Why not just stay retired with numbers like that?

This is unfortunate.
Witten, who was the 69th pick in his draft, had finished his career with 69 receiving touchdowns. His career long was a 69-yarder. pic.twitter.com/opnkZhuxt7
Was this all part of an elaborate scheme by Jerry Jones to get a leg up on the competition? I wouldn’t put it past him.
Pretty genius move by Jerry Jones to send Witten to the booth for a year to scout other teams and gather information on the rest of the league

“The fire inside me to complete and play this game is just burning too strong,” Witten said in an official statement. “This team has a great group of rising young stars, and I want to help them make a run at a championship.”

Witten returns to the gridiron where he belongs, and leaves the booth role for someone else. It’s a win-win.
