Round 7: Deshuan Davis

When you get this late in the draft, it’s fair to say that almost every selection is going to carry significant risk. The best way to mitigate that risk is to find a player who was productive against good competition.

That’s why we like Davis here for the Redskins. Their 3-4 alignment means they are always in the market for inside linebackers who can make tackles. Davis isn’t going to wow you with any of his physical gifts, but he was a really productive player during his Auburn career.

His lack of quick-twitch explosion means he’s best suited to play alongside a rangier middle linebacker. Either Zach Brown or Mason Foster would definitely qualify. Davis is a guy who should be counted on to be a backup. Expecting anything more would be overly ambitious from Washington’s front office.

He is, however, a player who can carve out a niche and make the roster. That’s a win when you’re talking about a pick in round seven. Look for the Redskins to try to pluck a linebacker out of this draft who can provide quality depth in 2019.
