The race for the Champions League in Serie A has become a lot more interesting over the last few weeks. It looked like AC Milan and Inter Milan were going to lock up the final two last four spots but both clubs have allowed Roma to get back in the race. On Saturday, AC Milan host 11th place Sassuolo at the San Siro.
Milan are unbeaten in their last eight games, picking up 18 of a possible 24 points. Gennaro Gattuso will have to keep picking up points to remain in front of Roma, who are also unbeaten over their last eight games. The addition of Krzysztof Piatek has been incredible for Milan, who are unbeaten since signing the Polish striker from Genoa. Piatek has scored seven goals in his seven games with Milan, one goal fewer than the man he replaced, Gonzalo Higuain, who scored eight goals in all competitions in his half-season with Milan.
Sassuolo got off to a strong start to the season, sitting as high as third after eight games. However, over the last eight games, Sassuolo’s season has fallen apart. The Neroverdi have seven points in their last eight games. Sassuolo have conceded 40 goals this season but have allowed 18 goals over their last eight games. Up front, the Neroverdi are still trying to replace Kevin-Prince Boateng, who joined Barcelona in the winter transfer window. Khouma Babacar leads the club with six goals and will lead the attack against Milan.
