Brighton take on Huddersfield town knowing a win will boost their chances of staying in the Premier League. Losing their last two in the league have dropped the team to 16th, two points off 18th-place Cardiff. However, Chris Houghton’s side have fared much better at home than away. Brighton have collected 19 of their 27 overall points at home, so they’ll have strong belief they can collect more points in their push to survival. They also beat the Terriers 2-1 in the sides’ first meeting back in December.
Huddersfield, on the other hand, are doomed. Bottom of the league, the numbers speak for themselves. Just three wins all season, 20 defeats and 14 points tallied. They’ve scored 15 goals all season; to put that into perspective, Liverpool have conceded 15 goals all season. They’re also the second-worst team on the road, winning just one game all season. Only Fulham are worse, with no wins on their travels. David Wagner leaving the club was upsetting, and has left the club all but certain for the drop.
But Huddersfield could see the value of pushing on for wins late in the season. Their last gasp 1-0 win over Wolverhampton brought jubilant scenes at the end of the game. Caretaker manager Jan Siewert will be praying their side can pull off another rabbit out of the hat, but Brighton will be favorites. It should be an intriguing game, the Amex will be a nervous venue hoping for victory. The home side have much more to play for, with Huddersfield facing the near certainty of playing in the Championship next season.
