NHL DraftKings Saturday Turbo Slate Stack Attack
Welcome to ‘NHL DraftKings Saturday Turbo Slate Stack Attack’. This article will focus on the best NHL lineup stacks on DraftKings for the turbo slate on Saturday March 2nd.
There are two games to look at ahead of tonight’s turbo slate in the NHL with both of them locking at 8 p.m. so there isn’t any wiggle room for late stack swaps.
As always, I urge you to please check NHL news as close to lock as possible as line combination switches, starting goaltender swaps, healthy scratches, and injuries occur constantly.
I’ve found that the best accounts for NHL news on Twitter are @FantasyLabsNHL and @Rotoworld_HK. I would also recommend looking up individual beat reporters of specific teams in order to see the lines used at practice.
For example, Kristen Shilton (@Kristen_Shilton) tweets out the Toronto Maple Leafs’ lines from practice almost every morning.
I will begin by looking at my favorite line/power play stacks before transitioning to ideal value picks. I will also refer to a ‘top-five stack’ which is (usually) a team’s top line combined with their number-one defenceman and starting goaltender.
We’ll start with what should be the more exciting game of the two: Dallas Stars @ St. Louis Blues.
NHL DraftKings Saturday Turbo Slate Stack Attack
Dallas Stars (32-27-5) @ St. Louis Blues (34-24-6)
This is a tricky match-up as the Blues should be the dominant squad in this one, but they’ll also be on the second half of a back-to-back after suffering a 5-2 loss to a bunch of jerks last night. That isn’t exactly slate-changing news however it’s certainly something to keep in mind in case you were thinking of a contrarian Dallas stack.
The good news is that Jake Allen patrolled the crease for St. Louis on Friday; therefore, the Blues will more than likely start super-rookie Jordan Binnington in goal tonight.
The young netminder has started 18 games for the music notes this season posting an incredible 15-2-1 record; therefore, i’m more than likely going to be stacking Blues tonight.
Any St. Louis stack should begin with their top-line of Jaden Schwartz ($5K), Ryan O’Reilly ($6.4K), and Vladimir Tarasenko ($7.2K) as this trio is also featured on the top power play unit. This line has scored a combined 33 points over their last 10 games and should continue to pile on the offence.
Adding Alex Pietrangelo ($5.7K) and Jordan Binnington ($7.9K) to complete the top-five stack gives you 80% of the primary power play unit as well. This stack leaves $4.45K per remaining roster slot which shouldn’t be too hard to work with.
You could also add Tyler Bozak ($4.1K) to the mix as he’s the missing piece of the top power play set (and on the second line at even-strength); however, don’t feel obligated to. Given his price, he makes a great stand-alone value play as well.
St. Louis and Dallas have very similar numbers when comparing both their power play and penalty-killing percentages, but the Blues (7-2-1) are much hotter than the Stars (4-6) over their last 10 games and are likely to keep rolling with Binnington between the pipes.
With that being said, a contrarian stack isn’t the worst idea here given the value at play. Using a top-five stack featuring Tyler Seguin ($6.7K), Alexander Radulov ($6.9K), Roope Hintz ($3.3K), John Klingberg ($5.2K), and Ben Bishop ($7.4K) leaves $5.125K per remaining roster spot which allows a lot of flexibility for the rest of your lineup.
The top-line trio (and Klingberg) are all used on the top power play unit as well giving you a solid alternate stack at a very good price. I don’t usually go into this much detail about contrarian stacks, but it’s worth mentioning in a game that could (potentially) go either way. Remember (for what it’s worth), the Stars are fresh and the Blues are not.
Another player to keep an eye on is Jamie Benn ($4.7K). That price may seem bonkers for a player of his calibre (and it is) however it makes sense when you consider that he really hasn’t had a Jamie Benn-esque season. The Canadian only has 41 points through 61 games (with a meagre nine points on the power play) and has been out due to injury since February 25th.
If he dresses he could be a sneaky value player given his pedigree, but there’s obviously no guarantees here and I wouldn’t specifically target him.
Now let’s look at the Wings and ‘Yotes as Detroit prepares to roll into the desert.
NHL DraftKings Saturday Turbo Slate Stack Attack
Detroit Red Wings (23-32-9) @ Arizona Coyotes (31-28-5)
This is a game that generally lacks fantasy appeal given how low-scoring it should be. The Red Wings have a 25th-ranked power play and the Yotes have somehow managed to maintain their status as the best penalty-killing team in the league.
Detroit has a very mediocre penalty kill (25th in the league); however, Arizona only has a 22nd-ranked power play so that really isn’t anything to get excited about. Both teams are in the league’s basement in terms of goals-per-game which means this should be a very low-scoring tilt.
One positive we can draw on is the Yotes’ 8-2 record over their last 10 games. The Red Wings are 2-6-2 over that same span giving the desert dogs the upper-hand when deciding on which team to stack.
An Arizona stack should start with a top-five of Alex Galchenyuk ($5.7K), Clayton Keller ($4.4K), Nick Cousins ($3.3K), Oliver Ekman-Larsson ($4.6K), and Darcy Kuemper ($8K) leaving $5.975K per remaining roster spot.
Galchenyuk has been hot over his last 10 games (four goals, 10 points); however, his linemates Keller (one goal, four points) and Cousins (one goal, five points) unfortunately haven’t been as successful.
This top-five stack features the second line (as opposed to the first) because it’s the best way to maximize exposure to the top power play. Galchenyuk, Keller, and Ekman-Larsson are all on the top unit (with the missing pieces being Derek Stepan and Jakob Chychrun).
Stepan has actually now been ruled out for the next 4-6 weeks so it’s worth keeping an eye on the news in order to see who will take his place on the top-line/top power play. For all we know, Arizona’s entire top-six could change ahead of tonight because of this injury.
Due to the uncertainty of the top-six going forward, this stack is slightly inconvenient. If you have time to watch for news and figure it out, this could potentially be a great way to take advantage of a hot team at a good price.
Speaking of a good price, let’s spot the value.
NHL DraftKings Saturday Turbo Slate Stack Attack
Spotting The Value
As mentioned earlier, Tyler Bozak ($4.1K, PP1, Line 2) and Roope Hintz ($3.3K, PP1, Line 1) are great value plays. Either could easily become the top value play of the slate.
Jaden Schwartz ($5K, PP1, Line 1) and Oliver Ekman-Larsson ($4.6K, PP1, Line 1) are slightly more expensive value plays; however, they both grade very well in terms of ‘bang for your buck’.

If you choose to stack the Stars (or any team besides the Blues), consider adding Jason Spezza ($3K, PP1, Line 3). He obviously isn’t the player he used to be; however, that’s a very cheap price for a player with top power play exposure. He only has 26 points on the season, but the veteran also has two goals and four points in his last 10 games. He’s worth taking as a minimum-salary dart throw.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive defenceman, it may be worth taking a chance on Filip Hronek ($3.7K, PP1, Line 2) from the Red Wings. He has seven assists over his last 10 games (14 points through 28 games this season) which is decently solid production for any young player let alone a rookie defenceman.
Lawson Crouse ($3.2K, PP2, Line 1) has two goals and four points over his last five games for the Yotes and could perhaps see an expanded role in the top-six due to the Stepan injury. At his price, you may as well find out.
Sample Lineup
Remember, this is just a re-creation of what an ideal lineup might look like based on my opinion. This is not a surefire NHL DraftKings winner and should not be directly used as your lineup.
I will again urge you to please check NHL news as close to lock as possible as line combination switches, starting goaltender swaps, healthy scratches, and injuries occur constantly.
It’s not nearly as bad as basketball but you should still be on your toes. Good luck tonight!
