Arizona Cardinals free agency 2019: Top 5 targets
It was a disaster in the desert as the Arizona Cardinals finished with the NFL’s worst record in 2018. Can they find some help via free agency?
After five seasons under head coach Bruce Arians, the Arizona Cardinals turned to Steve Wilks in 2018. It added up to a forgettable 3-13 season. Enter Kliff Kingsbury and a lot of speculation what the team will do with the first overall pick in April’s draft.
Meanwhile, what could general manager Steve Keim do in free agency? The franchise has never been shy about spending some dollars to obtain talent. And with only three wins in ’18, there is a lot that has to be fixed when it comes to this roster. So don’t be surprised if the Cards are extremely active over the next few months.
5. WR Terrance Williams (Dallas Cowboys)
Four different players threw a not-so-scintillating total of 15 touchdown passes for Big Red this past season. The leader in the clubhouse when it came to that figure was quarterback Josh Rosen, the subject of much discussion these days in terms of his future with the Cardinals’ franchise. All told, only six different players hauled in those scores, almost half of those (6) by ageless wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. The 15-year pro led the club with 69 catches and 734 receiving yards.
Promising Christian Kirk, a second-round pick in 2018, finished with 43 receptions – good for 590 yards and three scores. But he and Fitzgerald were the only wideouts on the club to manage at least 20 receptions. The team could use a little more help in this area and could take advantage of the fact that the Dallas Cowboys have declined to pick up the option on Terrance Williams. He comes off a troubling year in which he dealt with injury and a three-game suspension and was limited to three games. But he could wind up being a bargain for an offense in dire need of help.
