Luke Perry, who made his name as Dylan McKay on the iconic ’90s drama Beverly Hills, 90210, and recently was a star on Riverdale, has died at age 52.

Luke Perry, who captured hearts as Dylan McKay on the iconic ’90s drama Beverly Hills 90210, has died at age 52.

Perry was hospitalized last Wednesday after he suffered a massive stroke. On Monday, his publicist, Arnold Robinson, confirmed that the actor had passed. He was surrounded by his children and close family and friends in his final hours, in a written statement to the press:

Born in Mansfield, Ohio, Perry became well-known in his high school as the mascot at Fredericktown High School. Right after he graduated, he moved to Los Angeles to take his chance on starting an acting career. Luke started out as most actors did, working odd jobs to pay the bills while attending auditions.

He auditioned for 215 acting jobs before he landed his first commercial, and in 1985, he got a gig in the Twisted Sister video “Be Chrool to Your Scuel.” His first appearance on a television show came in 1987 when he landed a role on the short-lived ABC soap opera Loving, and the next year on NBC’s Another World.

In 1990, Perry would snag the role that would change his career, cast as Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210, a role that he would play for 199 episodes from 1990 until 2000. After 90210, Perry would land multiple parts in both the film and television worlds.

Then, in 2017, he landed the role of Fredrick “Fred” Andrews on the hit CW drama Riverdale, where he stared in until his untimely passing.
