1. Figure out the Russell Wilson situation

There is no question that the Seahawks are Russell Wilson’s team now, but reports have started to surface that Wilson may want out of Seattle. Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd mentioned on his radio show recently that he had heard Wilson would be open to a trade to the New York Giants, where he would be the long term replacement for Eli Manning.

Wilson only has one more year on his contract in Seattle, and CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora mentioned on the Pick Six podcast that there has been no talk of a long-term deal between the sides. Considering how much cap space Seattle has and how important Wilson is to their franchise, the lack of talks should be raising alarm bells.

If Wilson is unhappy and wants out, it could create a dramatic ripple effect in the NFL. While some may question whether or not Wilson is in the same class as guys like Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees, he is still a Super Bowl champion who can be a franchise quarterback for any team.

Seattle’s top priority this off-season should be figuring out how to secure Wilson’s long term future with the franchise. The rumors leaking out about his willingness to leave aren’t promising, so nipping that in the bud is essential if Seattle wants to remain a viable contender for years to come.
