New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are facing the possibility of losing three defensive linemen to free agency. Malcolm Brown, Danny Shelton and Trey Flowers are all scheduled to hit the open market. This would leave Lawrence Guy as the top defensive tackle on the roster.

New England doesn’t have a ton of salary cap space to work with, but they could put a priority on adding to the defensive line. This would put Sheldon Richardson in play for the Super Bowl Champions.

For awhile now, the Patriots have used their success to benefit them in free agency. They can sell the chance to play for a Super Bowl title. This allows them to offer less money than other franchises and still land a player.

Richardson’s last two stops, the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks, were teams thought to be Super Bowl contenders. He obviously takes a team’s chances of success into account when choosing a home.

New England has a total of 12 draft picks this year and will likely look to fill a lot of their needs this way. However, it’s possible they see someone like Richardson as a worthy investment at a position that is a major need.
