Borussia Dortmund face Tottenham at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday, March 5. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The second leg of the Champions League round of 16 kicks off on Tuesday with Borussia Dortmund hosting Tottenham at Signal Iduna Park. Spurs enter the second leg of their Champions League clash with a 3-0 lead. However, Dortmund have enough scoring power to overcome that deficit and hand Tottenham another disappointing Champions League loss.
Since the end of the Bundesliga’s winter break, Dortmund have struggled. Once seven points up on Bayern Munich, the two clubs are now level on points. Despite playing nine of their regular starting XI, Dortmund were beaten 2-1 by Augsburg. However, there is still reason to believe the German side can come back. Dortmund’s top two scorers, Marco Reus, and Paco Alcacer were injured and missed the first leg. Both players have returned, with Alcacer scoring against Augsburg. Their return should help Jadon Sancho, who will have more options to look for in the middle of the pitch. The return of Dortmund’s top two scorers should give them the belief that they can score the three required goals. However, Dortmund will also have to be better in their own half. The return of Manuel Akanji, who also missed the first leg should instantly improve the defense but Dortmund have no room for error in the second leg.
One away goal on Tuesday should be enough for Tottenham to advance. Much like Dortmund, Spurs have struggled in the Premier League lately. Tottenham were perhaps lucky to get a point from Arsenal, thanks to a Harry Kane penalty. The draw ended a two-game losing streak for Spurs. After missing the first leg, Kane will return to the starting XI for Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino will likely deploy Kane in the front two along with Heung-min Son. At the back, Pochettino will likely stick with three center-backs and use Jan Vertonghen and Serge Aurier at wing-back. Vertonghen had one of the best games of his career, scoring and setting up Son’s goal.
