One of the top draft prospects from the SEC got his turn on the NFL Combine stage this past weekend. So, how well did Josh Allen do in Indianapolis?

For the second-year in a row, someone named Josh Allen will be one of the best available players at his position during the NFL Draft. Last year, it was former Wyoming and Current Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen who went in the first-round.

This year’s Josh Allen is one of the top edge rush prospects, and he was a monster in one of the most competitive conferences in college football. How good was he? He led the SEC in sacks with 17 and was top-10 in total tackles. Prior to this past season, he had 14.5 total sacks in three seasons.

In four years at the University of Kentucky, Allen brought down the quarterback 31.5 times and had 42 tackles for loss. His colossal 2018 season put him on the radar, but how did he do at the combine?

According to NFL.com, the New Jersey native weighed in at 262 pounds and his height was 6-5. His hand size measured out to be 8 3/4 inches, and his arms measurement was 33 1/2.

Allen ran an unofficial 40-yard dash time of 4.63 seconds, which wasn’t spectacular, nor was it dreadful. Although, as an edge rusher scouts and coaches may have wanted to see more explosiveness.

The former Wildcat ran the 3-cone drill in 7.15 seconds, the 20-yard shuttle in 4.23 seconds and muscled out 28 reps on the bench press. He also participated in the broad jump and his result was 118.0 inches.

Even with Allen’s 40 time, he still had a strong combine. Also, outside of the broad jump results, he and Khalil Mack, a player who also came into the league as an edge rushing linebacker, had very similar combine results. Any time you’re in the same sentence as Mack, you’re more than likely doing the correct thing.

As far as draft stock goes, Allen’s didn’t shoot up or fall down. He is still one of the best prospects on the draft board, which means he will more than likely hear NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announce his name within the first five picks of the draft.
