With just a week to go in the regular season, the North Carolina Tar Heels need to keep winning to secure at least a share of the ACC’s regular season title.
North Carolina received a big scare over the weekend, getting into a dogfight with a desperate Clemson team in need of a marquee victory to improve their standing with the NCAA selection committee. The Tigers were in the contest all the way, holding a lead with just over eight minutes to go, but the Tar Heels pulled the game out at the end.
Freshman guard Coby White was a true stat sheet stuffer for North Carolina, leading the Tar Heels with 28 points while adding six rebounds and five assists for good measure. This was the second straight huge game for White, who dropped 34 in a win over Syracuse last Tuesday.
The Tar Heels are peaking at the right time, winners of five in a row, and they have a big matchup with Duke looming on Senior Day this Saturday. Roy Williams will have some work to do to avoid having North Carolina fall into a trap by overlooking tonight’s road trip to Boston College.
The Eagles aren’t going to the NCAA Tournament this year, checking into today’s game with a 14-4 record and a pitiful 5-11 mark in ACC play, but they have been a competitive team all season long. Boston College has been particularly tricky at home, where they have wins over Florida State and Louisville already this season.
