NFL free agency 2019: Landon Collins’ 5 best landing spots

Every March, free agency often impacts all 32 NFL teams. Teams often look to fill holes by signing key free agents. This winter, New York Giants safety Landon Collins will be a popular free agent when the new league year begins on March 13.

With New York’s decision not to use the franchise tag, this means that other teams will have the opportunity of signing Collins, who racked 96 tackles while battling a labrum injury in a disappointing 5-11 season with the Giants. Collins racked up 437 tackles, eight interceptions, and three Pro Bowl appearances in his four years with New York.

Here are five teams who should be calling his agent…

Kansas City Chiefs

A young safety might be just what the Chiefs need. Last year, the Kansas City came to within one game of making the Super Bowl before losing to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship. One of Kansas City’s best defenders, safety Eric Berry, has only played in three games during the past two seasons. Collins would give the Chiefs a young safety to build their defense for years to come.

Dallas Cowboys

Last year, the Cowboys showed a young, promising defense en route to an NFC East title. The Cowboys’ only weakness was at safety. Jeff Heath led the secondary with 85 tackles. In the NFC Divisional Round, the Cowboys allowed 273 rushing yards against the Los Angeles Rams. Collins would give the Cowboys a legitimate run-stuffer who can help Dallas win big games.

Indianapolis Colts

Last year, the Colts shocked the NFL with a 10-win season and a playoff victory over the Houston Texans. While Indy racked up yards and touchdowns, the Colts defense allowed 27.1 points per game. Safety Malik Hooker has flashed his athletic potential during his first two NFL seasons with the Colts. After Hooker, Indianapolis lacked a second safety on its defense. Collins would give Indy two capable safeties of shutting down the run and opposing quarterbacks.

Washington Redskins

Last season, the Redskins dealt with an average defense for most of the season. Washington acquired safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix from the Green Packers, and despite playing just nine games, Clinton-Dix led Washington’s secondary with 65 of his 92 total tackles. Like Collins, Clinton-Dix is a free agent looking for a new contract. Collins would give Washington a sturdy force to make its defense capable of winning more games.

Cleveland Browns

In 2018, the Browns exceeded expectations at 7-8-1. One big problem was Cleveland’s 28th-ranked rush defense. In Week 17, the Baltimore Ravens rushed for 296 yards in a 26-24 win. This game highlighted the Browns’ need for a bruising safety. With Collins added to young defense stars Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward in its secondary, Cleveland will have the complete defense ready to win the AFC North.
