Marquette vs. Seton Hall live stream: Watch Big East basketball online
While Marquette is a near lock for a top-4 seed in the NCAA Tournament, their opponent, Seton Hall, needs to win badly in order to secure their own place in March Madness.
Even though the defending national champions reside in the Big East, the league hasn’t gotten a ton of hype this season. The Big East is having a bit of a down year, but the best team in the conference has been Marquette, which is trying to secure the regular season title.
The Golden Eagles’ pursuit of the Big East’s top seed has hit a bit of a speed bump after consecutive losses last week. Losing at Villanova wasn’t too much of a shock considering how much talent the Wildcats have, but falling to Creighton by six at home on Sunday was not good.
Markus Howard did Markus Howard-like things for Marquette, pouring in a game-high 33 points on 11-21 shooting, but the rest of the team only added 27, which is not a recipe for success. The losses now have Marquette trailing Villanova by a half-game in the conference standings, meaning they need two wins to secure at least a share of the Big East title.
Things are more dire for the home team, Seton Hall, which has fallen into a slump at the absolute worst time. The Pirates have lost three in a row, including a brutal double-overtime defeat at surging Georgetown on Saturday night.
Seton Hall is now just 16-12 on the season and 7-9 in conference play, and while a win over Kentucky in the non-conference schedule is great Kevin Willard’s bunch also has a ton of bad losses to counter it. The Pirates got swept by perennial bottom feeder DePaul while also dropping games to Providence, St. Louis, and Xavier.
The good news for Seton Hall is that they’re at home this week. The problem is that their home games are against Marquette and Villanova, so they need to get at least a split to feel good about their chances entering the conference tournament.
