David Irving smokes pot on IG, quits football (Video)
Suspended Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving announced he’s done with the NFL while smoking marijuana on an Instagram live post.
You can’t make it up.
On Thursday night, soon-to-be free agent David Irving took to his Instagram page and went live. Once the broadcast was rolling, Irving pulled out a joint and started smoking weed, eventually telling his fans that he’s done with the National Football League.
The 25-year-old is currently serving a suspension for repeatedly violating the league’s drug policy. The length of his current ban is indefinite, likely making it hard for his representation to find him a decent contract this upcoming offseason despite obvious talent.
“Basically guys, I quit,” Irving said. ” … I’m not doing this s**t anymore.”
Irving’s agent, Louis Bing, was reached for but declined comment.
A source close to the situation stated that Irving “has lost his mind.”
In four seasons with the Cowboys, Irving only played in 37 games but amassed 12.5 sacks, being a disruptive force along the defensive line. Irving’s best years came in 2017 when he notched seven sacks in only eight contests.

The Cowboys are now looking at a very complicated situation in their front seven. Defensive end Randy Gregory is also suspended indefinitely for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Meanwhile, Pro Bowler DeMarcus Lawrence was placed on the franchise tag for the second straight year, and it would be a stunner if he shows up for OTAs and minicamp without a long-term deal signed.
As for Irving, this could signal the end of what was once a very promising career. Not your typical retirement presser.
