If you are looking for hitters outside of the fantasy baseball top 300 overall, here are five to choose from late in the draft.

The hitter pool is rich with talent, going as deep as 400 hitters that could be drafted in some leagues. Though, most standard fantasy baseball leagues draft between 150 and 180 batters, leaving plenty of value on the waiver wire. If you are looking for those diamonds in the rough, here are five players worth drafting with an ADP outside of the top 300.

Hitters are easier to take a chance on than pitchers. They have a bigger sample size over a full season to offset a bad week of games. A pitcher can have one or two bad starts and their ratios drop a bit. Five hundred at-bats compared to 180 innings can make a difference. That’s why drafting a good rotation early is important.

Looking at the five players, they will have an ADP of 300.0 or lower according to FantasyPros. These are the players that you’ll be looking at with your final picks in your draft. Some will pan out while others may not but they are all worth taking a risk on.

Jay Bruce, ADP 305.6

The Mariners made a lot of moves this offseason and trading for Bruce was one of those moves. The 32-year-old can still be productive as either a first baseman or outfielder. He is currently listed as Seattle’s right fielder.

Bruce is two years removed from a 36 HR/101 RBI/.254 season. In a shortened season last year, he hit nine home runs, 37 RBIs and .223. If he can stay healthy, he’ll be a part of the Mariners lineup all season. He can hit .240 with 20 home runs and 60 RBIs.

Yonder Alonso, ADP 326.0

Alonso had a good first season in the AL Central with the Indians. He hit .250 with 23 home runs and 83 RBIs. Now with the White Sox, he will look to post his third-straight 20-plus home run season in a hitter-friendly Guaranteed Rate Field.

The middle of the White Sox lineup is solid with Jose Abreu, Welington Castillo and Daniel Palka. It also helps that the starting pitching, outside of Cleveland, is below average. With first base being top-heavy, Alonso should see some ownership in a lot of mixed leagues.

More from Fantasy

Troy Tulowitzki, ADP 346.0

It’s been two years since we’ve seen Tulowitzki play in a regular season game. He played in 66 games in 2017, hitting .249 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs. The 34-year-old shortstop could see a rebound with the Yankees this season.

Tulo benefits from hitting in Yankee Stadium. He also doesn’t have much competition at shortstop. Didi Gregorius is recovering from Tommy John surgery and isn’t expected back until June. That’s three months of solid production from Tulowitzki.

Colin Moran, ADP 428.5

In his first full season, Moran showed why the Marlins drafted him in the first round and the Astros and Pirates traded for him. In 144 games, he hit .277 with 11 home runs and 58 RBIs. As long as his teammates can stay healthy, Moran will be in a good situation.

While PNC Park favors pitchers more, three of the other four NL Central parks lean to be more hitter friendly. Moran showed good contact with some power in the minors. He can still provide some power with a .265 average.

Billy McKinney, ADP 498.5

McKinney played in 38 games last season, all but two with the Blue Jays. He hit .252 with six home runs and 13 RBI. McKinney has good plate discipline with his high contact rate and ability to lay off pitches out of the strike zone.

McKinney is competing with Teoscar Hernandez for the starting left fielder job. If he wins out, McKinney makes for a good leadoff hitter with Lourdes Gurriel and Justin Smoak behind him. He’s hitting .300 with two home runs this spring.
