With the regular season wrapping up, SEC rivals Kentucky and Florida have a lot on the line this afternoon in Lexington.

The SEC has been highly competitive this season, with the potential to send up to nine teams to the NCAA Tournament. Two of those teams square off in this game, although Kentucky is in far better shape than Florida.

The Wildcats bounced back nicely from the beating Tennessee gave them last Saturday by outlasting Ole Miss 80-76 in Oxford. Freshmen Keldon Johnson and Tyler Herro combined for 42 points in the win, which leaves Kentucky just a game back of Tennessee and LSU in the SEC standings.

While Kentucky is a lock to go to the dance, things are much more dicey for Florida. The Gators surged back towards the bubble with a five-game winning streak, but have since struggled, dropping two in a row.

Wednesday’s loss to LSU was particularly painful for Florida, which had a chance to potentially cement an at-large bid by completing a sweep of the Tigers. The Gators took a 72-70 lead with seconds to go on a late three only to let Tremont Waters go coast-to-coast for the tying lay-up.

The Tigers went on to win in overtime, handing the Gators a devastating loss and leaving them in need of either a win at Rupp Arena or a couple of victories in the SEC Tournament. The Wildcats are hoping to get grad transfer Reid Travis back from a knee injury in this game, which would make life even more difficult for Florida.
