With just one game left in conference play, the Virginia Cavaliers are a win away from securing at least a share of the ACC’s regular season title.
Things are tight atop the ACC, the nation’s most top-heavy conference, entering the final weekend of the regular season. Virginia and North Carolina are tied atop the conference with 15-2 ACC records, while Duke sits a game behind at 14-3.
The Tar Heels and Blue Devils face off in Chapel Hill tonight, and the result of that game won’t impact Virginia’s chances to secure the ACC title. Simply winning over Louisville will do the trick, and the Cavaliers are red-hot right now.
Virginia has won seven straight games entering the contest, including a 79-53 blowout at Syracuse on Monday night. The Cavaliers hit 18 3-pointers in the game, with Kyle Guy knocking down eight of those as part of his team-high 25 points.
Louisville enters the game in a bit of a free fall, dropping five out of their last six games before stopping the bleeding with a 75-61 win over Notre Dame. Jordan Nwora (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Malik Williams (16 points, 13 rebounds) each posted a double-double to help the Cardinals get back on track.
It will be Senior Day in Charlottesville, so the Cavaliers will be looking to win one final home game for center Jack Salt. Salt, a key reserve on Virginia’s front line, would like to commemorate the occasion with a bit of hardware as well by helping the Cavaliers claim at least a share of an ACC championship.
