NHL DFS Man Advantage Saturday March 9th
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Saturday night March 9th! Tonight’s schedule is a big one with 10 games on the slate. We have the hottest team in the NHL in action in the Bruins at home against the leagues worst team, Ottawa. Edmonton is starting to really heat up recently and will be hosting Toronto, the last team to beat them back on February 27. Let’s just get right into the breakdown for this big slate.
Tonight’s NHL DFS Schedule:
Detroit @ Tampa Bay
Projected goal total: 6.5
Ottawa @ Boston
Projected goal total: 6
New Jersey @ NY Rangers
Projected goal total: 6
Toronto @ Edmonton
Projected goal total: 6.5
Philadelphia @ NY Islanders
Projected goal total: 6
Pittsburgh @ Columbus
Projected goal total: 6.5
Carolina @ Nashville
Projected goal total: 5.5
Chicago @ Dallas
Projected goal total: 7
Los Angeles @ Arizona
Projected goal total: 5
Vegas @ Vancouver
Projected goal total: 5.5
Clearly Vegas has no faith in the offenses in the Los Angeles/Arizona game, which makes sense with LA being so bad and Kuemper playing so well right now. On the other end of the spectrum we get Dallas and Chicago at a 7 projected goal total, which seems high to be actually with how well Ben Bishop has been playing lately. There are 2 games in particular I want to focus on tonight, Toronto @ Edmonton, and Pittsbugh @ Columbus. I will probably look to stack the first game, but only look to take Penguins in the second.
NHL DFS Goalies:
Starting at the top there is really a 1 and a 1A in goalies tonight with Tuukka Rask ($8,400) and Andrei Vasilevskiy ($8,300). Both of these guys are in great spots and playing extremely well of late. I really don’t think you can wrong with either one, and with only $100 separating their prices you can just flip a coin and decide who you put in.
There are two goalies priced at $8,000 that I like as well, Darcy Kuemper and Marc-Andre Fleury. Out of these two netminders, I prefer Kuemper in this matchup with Los Angeles, but Fleury’s matchup with the Canucks is a pretty good one as well. Fleury is coming in with only 2 goals allowed in his last 4 starts with 2 shutouts in that span. Meanwhile Kuemper has won 8 of his last 9 starts and against a putrid team like LA it’s hard to not like him.
Lastly, Matt Murray ($7,800) is coming off a shutout of the same Blue Jacket team he faces tonight in Columbus. He is a good option tonight against a team that has seemingly fallen apart after all the trades they made for a playoff run that seems like it won’t happen now.
NHL DFS Top Forwards:
Top Tier:
Sidney Crosby ($7,800)- Well here we are again, another night with Sid on the slate and I am writing him up. Crosby is hot, to the tune of 6 straight games with a goal, points in 9 of his last 10 games, 21 points in his last 10 games, and 7 multi point games. These all seem like good reasons to roster him, oh yeah, almost forgot he also has 2 goals and 3 assists in 3 games against Columbus this season.
Sean Couturier ($6,900)- In his last 6 games Couturier has points in 5. During this span he has 3 goals and 4 assists as well as 20 SOG and 8 blocked shots. Couturier is now centering the Flyers top line with Oskar Linblom and Jakub Voracek who is returning from a lower body injury tonight.
Mika Zibanejad ($6,500)- It seems that New Jersey is Zibanejad’s favorite team to play against this season as he has 3 goals (a hat trick in one game) and 3 assists against the Devils as well as an average of 11 DKFP per game.
Mid Tier:
David Krejci ($5,700)- Krejci has 1 goal and 2 assists against Ottawa in 2 games this season, and currently has goals in back to back games. With both Marcu Johansson and Jake DeBrusk injured, Krejci has new linemates in Peter Cehlarik and Karson Kuhlman making this line a pretty inexpensive, potentially low owned stack.
Nino Niederreiter ($4,800) -Niederreiter has 4 assists in his last 4 games and he is averaging 3.62 DKFP per game during this span. In 13 road games for the Wild this season Niederreiter has 13 points, 6 goals and 7 assists, as opposed to only 6 points 8 home games.
Clayton Keller ($4,500) – Keller has 2 goals and 2 assists in the Coyotes last 6 games and has 18 shots on goal. This game is likely to be the lowest scoring game on the night, but it won’t most likely a 0-0 tie going into a shootout, so we could benefit taking some Coyotes for GPP’s and Keller is an option with his new linemates of Michael Grabner and Christian Dvorak.
Value Tier:
Anthony Cirelli ($3,900)- Cirelli has 1 goal and 2 assists in his last for while centering the Lightning’s 3rd line. Tampa is going to be a popular play tonight, understandably so, but there are plenty of other spots to pay up for, and Cirelli, J.T. Miller, and Alex Killorn could make a good line stack for low-cost.
Josh Leivo ($3,000) – Leivo is in a good spot playing with Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser on the Canucks 2nd line. He doesn’t have a bunch of points, or a point streak currently but you will need savings if you want to pay up for some of the top players tonight and Leivo could give you some production for cheap.
Zach Kassian ($2,900) – Like Leivo before him, Kassian is a good cheap option playing with some great top end talent, the difference is Kassian has goals in 4 straight games. For this price Kassian is a steal while playing with Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
NHL DFS top Defensemen:
Top Tier:
Nate Schmidt ($5,700) – Schmidt is arguably the Golden Knights best defensemen currently. In his last 5 games Schmidt has 1 goal and 3 assists while averaging 5.3 DKFP per game. Schmidt plays on the Knights top D pair as well as on the teams second PP unit.
Other options: Roman Josi ($6,100), Erik Gustafsson ($5,500)
Value Tier:
Kris Russell ($3,800) – Russell plays on the Oilers 2nd defensive pair with Darnell Nurse but doesn’t play any power play time, but he does still see over 20 minutes TOI per game. In his last 3 games Russell has 3 assists and is averaging 4.8 DKFP per game over that span
Other options: Ron Hainsey ($3,500), Brandon Carlo ($3,200)
NHL DFS Line Stacks:
My top overall line stack is the Bruins top power play unit. This unit features the 5 best Bruins on the roster currently (not including those on injured reserve). As you’ll see in my core below I do plan on rostering a couple of players from this unit.

Next in my list of stacks is the Dallas Stars top line, which for some reason nobody likes playing. This game is projected to have the highest total tonight and it should benefit you to have some exposure to it. I don’t know if it will be the highest scoring game because of how well Ben Bishop has been playing, but Vegas is rarely wrong.
ROOPE HINTZ
TYLER SEGUIN

Other Stacking options:
Edmonton 1
Pittsburgh 1 and 2
Toronto 2 and PP 1
Arizona 1 – VALUE
Tampa Bay PP 1
Philadelphia PP 2 VALUE
NHL DFS Core Plays:
Starting in net I am locking into Darcy Kuemper tonight, and then move onto the the Penguins top line by using Crosby and Jared McCann. After that I will go to my Boston plays by using Danton Heinen and Torey Krug. I know I want to get some Dallas/Chicago exposure so I will lock into Tyler Seguin. Looking for value, I turn to Arizona’s top line and Lawson Crouse at $3,200, but you can also go to Zach Kassian and same $300. With my original core (without Kassian) you have 2 spots left (utility and defenseman) leaving you $4,350 per player.
