5 reasons the Antonio Brown trade is great for the Raiders
After he was reportedly almost shipped off to the Buffalo, Antonio Brown has found his new home in Oakland. Here’s five reasons why this trade is great for the Raiders.
The Antonio Brown-saga has finally come to an end. Reports indicate that Brown will pack his bags and leave Pittsburgh for Oakland. The Raiders have come away with one of the most-prized players available this offseason, only giving up third and fifth-round picks in the upcoming draft. Additionally, Oakland reworked Brown’s deal, giving hm $30 million guaranteed.
Of course, it’s a plus anytime you bring in a player of Brown’s caliber. However, this acquisition pumps hope back into what has become a helpless, lifeless fanbase. With the team skipping town and Jon Gruden coming in and tearing the team down, bringing Brown in shows that management may be ready to build a winner again.
5. Signals change
Gruden bolted from the broadcast booth to become the Raiders new head coach last offseason. As mentioned above, he came in and tore the roster down, rather than build it up.
Out went Khalil Mack, Amari Cooper and others. Quarterback Derek Carr was one of the only ‘survivors’ of the roster purge, but even he struggled under Gruden. Other than the roster turnover, fans had to deal with the team moving out of Oakland, which left a black cloud over the team throughout the season.
Adding Brown signals, whether they intend it to or not, that the franchise is ready to win again. A superstar like Brown will make fans happy and turn their bleak outlook into potential, optimistic hope. They deserve just that after such a tumultuous 2018 season.
