The Michigan State Spartans earned the top seed in the 2019 Big Ten Tournament, though the Purdue Boilermakers shared the regular season title.

There was plenty of drama going into the final weekend of the regular season in the Big Ten. With the Michigan State Spartans and Michigan Wolverines facing off on Saturday then the Wisconsin Badgers and Ohio State Buckeyes meeting on Sunday, among other matchups, much was left undecided in regards to the 2019 Big Ten Tournament.

After the games, though, the dust has now settled. At the top of the conference tournament will be Michigan State after they topped the rival Wolverines on Saturday. The second seed behind them, however, will be the Purdue Boilermakers, who secured a share of the Big Ten regular season championship with a win over Northwestern on Saturday. Michigan’s loss put them at the three-seed, while Wisconsin’s overtime win over Ohio State gave them the fourth seed.

In truth, the Big Ten Tournament could get quite wild from start to finish. While the top seeds have separated themselves at times, it’s really be a free for all throughout much of the year. When you put that type of parity in a tournament setting in the United Center in Chicago, things could be calamitous in a major way.

The 2019 Big Ten Tournament will tip off on Wednesday, March 13 as the No. 12 Illinois Fighting Illini take on the No. 13 Nebraska Cornhuskers, followed by the No. 11 Penn State Nittany Lions facing the No. 14 Northwestern Wildcats. The top four seeds, however, will all get double-byes, not suiting up until Friday, March 15. Finally the Big Ten Championship Game will be played on Sunday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Michigan State and Purdue have to be circled as the favorites to win the 2019 Big Ten Tournament, especially considering the shaky play of Michigan over the past month or so. Having said that, teams like Maryland and Wisconsin can get hot in a hurry, and it’s hard to count almost any group out as they head to Chicago.
