The FOX medical drama The Resident has been delivering top-notch drama each week, but the show is skipping a week while The Passage wraps up its first season.
Fans of The Resident look forward to the FOX medical drama every Monday night, but this week the show is taking a break so that The Passage can wrap up its first season with a two-hour season finale. The show will return on March 18.
This is the second time The Resident has been bumped since returning from the winter break. The first instance came as The Masked Singer cycled through the semifinals ahead of its finale.
While it’s hard for fans who are eager to see more from the doctors at Chastain Park to have to wait another week for the show to return, it’s a double edged sword because on the other hand it means the season will last just a bit longer and that’s not a bad thing.
When The Resident returns on March 18 it will be followed by the mid-season premiere of 9-1-1. While The Passage has been fun, the one-two punch of The Resident and 9-1-1 airing back to back is something that makes a lot of sense, especially for medical drama fans. Both shows complement each other well.
There has been a lot of buzz on social media lately about whether or not FOX will renew The Resident. Current trends suggest that the show is safe and will return for a third season, but there’s no guarantee. It’s possible that if the show finds itself on the renewal bubble, FOX could give the show a shortened final season and bring it back on Thursdays after Thursday Night Football wraps up in January, just as it did for Gotham.
