Big East

  • Dates: March 13-16
  • Location: New York, NY
  • Top Seed: Villanova

The Big East has been utter chaos over the past couple of weeks. Marquette, which looked like the class of the league for most of the season, enters the conference tournament losers of four straight.

That slump allowed Villanova, the defending national champions, to claim the Big East’s top seed but the Wildcats have been through their share of ups and downs. The league’s volatility can best be summed up by the plight of St. John’s, which swept Marquette and beat Villanova at home but lost four of their five, forcing them to play in the opening round against a DePaul team that swept them.

Of all the major conference tournaments, this one may be the most volatile given the recent issues Marquette and Villanova have faced. Don’t be surprised if an off the board pick wins at Madison Square Garden this week.

Prediction: Seton Hall
