3 NFL teams who could have interest in Jordy Nelson
1. Green Bay Packers
The Packers have Davante Adams and a bunch of young guys at wide receiver right now, and the latter group drew a bit of ire from Aaron Rodgers in the middle of last season.
Rodgers also openly lamented the move to cut Nelson last offseason, though it made sense for the Packers financially, which was surely the root of his calling out the work habits of Green Bay’s younger receivers.
Nelson obviously spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Packers, so as he vets his options (including retirement?) coming back to Green Bay probably stands out.
It’s unclear if there would be mutual interest, but the idea of a low salary on a one-year deal would be something to consider for general manager Brian Gutekunst.
Maximizing what’s left of Rodgers’ prime has to be the No. 1 priority for the Packers. Nelson is not going to recapture 2013 (85 receptions, 1,314 yards and eight touchdowns), 2014 (98 catches for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns) or 2016 (97 catches, 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns).
But he would bring a reliable veteran presence back to the wide receiver mix, and that would allow the Green Bay offense to operate at its best on a regular basis.
