A five-count rundown from this week’s episode of WWE NXT, keeping you up to date on the latest happenings in the black and yellow brand.
The semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic are in the books and the card for NXT Takeover: New York has become more clear. NXT once again delivered a great show this week from top to bottom and we’re here to cover everything that went down on Wednesday. Here’s another edition of the NXT Five Count.
1. An upset that will soon be forgotten
The show kicked off this week with the first of two semi-finals matches for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament. This pitted former NXT Tag Team Champions, Moustache Mountain, against the relatively new Forgotten Sons.
The match was very good with a ton of false finishes, ending with the Forgotten Sons getting the biggest win of their careers with a defeat of Trent Seven and Tyler Bate. The Sons will now advance to the finals of the Dusty Classic which will take place in two weeks’ time.

Unfortunately, this pretty much spoils the final before it even occurs as it’s hard to believe that Triple H is ready to put a team like the Forgotten Sons in the title picture on such a huge show like NXT Takeover. So it feels like the winner of #DIY versus Ricochet and Aleister Black (which we will cover later in this article) will be the clear favorites to take on the War Raiders at Takeover.
This is kind of a disappointing result, but it made for a very good match nonetheless.
