Kurt Angle: 5 dream opponents for farewell match at WrestleMania 35
By Matt Black
Oh, it’s true: Kurt Angle is wrestling his final match at WrestleMania 35. We run down some dream opponents that would make an epic close to his career.
This week on Monday Night Raw, in his hometown of Pittsburgh, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle made the announcement to the WWE Universe that his final match would take place this April in MetLife Stadium at WrestleMania 35.
Angle has had an absolutely historic career in the world of professional wrestling and has done all there is to do. Well, almost.
There will be plenty discussion over the next several weeks running down realistic opponents for the Olympic gold medalist, but that’s not what we’re going to do here. Besides, it’s all too easy to rattle off suggestions such as John Cena, The Undertaker, Shinsuke Nakamura and current WWE Champion Daniel Bryan.
But in reality, that’s no fun. Instead, let’s run down five dream opponents Angle could have fought at WrestleMania who he has never stepped foot in the ring with before and, unfortunately, may never will.
We broadened the scope to the entire wrestling industry, in order to find new and exciting matchups for Angle that would make any pro wrestling fan excited enough to get on a plane and go check out his final match live and in person.
Without any further ado, let’s get to it.
1. Free Agent CM Punk
The only free agent on this list, the self-proclaimed “Best in the World” would have been an awesome opponent for Angle at any stage in his career. A multi-time world champion for both ROH and WWE, Punk was never one to turn down a challenge.
The promos alone between these two going into this match would have been money in themselves. And the match would have most certainly delivered unless Punk’s ring rust from being away from the squared circle prevented it from happening.
Unfortunately for all of us, their paths never crossed and due to the bad blood between Punk and WWE, this match will never see the light of day. Oh, what could have been?
