After beating LSU at the buzzer on Friday, the Florida Gators will look to move on to the SEC Tournament final by topping Auburn this afternoon.
You know you’ve reached March when epic buzzer beaters start dropping, and the Florida Gators were the beneficiaries of a big one on Friday. With their game tied at 73 against the SEC’s top seed in LSU, Gators’ guard Andrew Nembhard drilled a triple with just a second to go to stun the Tigers.
The win was massive for Florida, which entered that game squarely on the bubble, and all but assured the Gators that they will be dancing on Selection Sunday. The easiest way for the Gators to eliminate all doubt is to take the SEC’s automatic bid for themselves, and the next step in that process would be topping Auburn in the conference’s first semifinal matchup.
Auburn took care of business in a more conventional matter, topping South Carolina 73-64 to earn their spot in the SEC’s final four. Junior Jared Harper led the Tigers in scoring with 27 points while knocking down six of his 13 shots from the floor.
The two teams met only once in the regular season, with Auburn defending its home floor to the tune of a 76-62 win back on Feb. 5. The Gators were in a bit of a slump then, but they are peaking right now, making this game an under-the-radar gem on a day loaded with tremendous hoops action.
