March Madness 2019: 5 candidates to be the Cinderella Story of the NCAA Tournament

2. Liberty

Another popular 12-seed in this field is Liberty, and the Flames have a great shot at making a deep run. The Flames won the Atlantic Sun by beating favored Lipscomb in their own gym in the conference tournament, and this gritty squad could be a nightmare for the power conference teams.

Liberty plays excellent defense, allowing just 60.8 points per game, which is the sixth fewest in the country. The Flames also are also loaded with experience, featuring three seniors and five juniors, giving them the ability to handle playing on the big stage.

The selection committee also did Liberty a favor by matching them up with Mississippi State, a talented but beatable 5-seed out of the SEC. Liberty has a great shot to get by them and Virginia Tech, which will be working injured star Justin Robinson back into the lineup, in order to advance to the Sweet 16.
