No. 2: Mississippi State Bulldogs

Mississippi State returns to the NCAA Tournament in 2019 for their first appearance in almost a decade, as their senior class gets a taste of March Madness for the first time in their last year as Bulldogs. Many outlets had the Bulldogs rated as highly as a No. 5 seed ahead of Selection Sunday, and those predictions came true.

That being said, don’t bet your money on this Mississippi team to make a deep run into this year’s tournament. They landed into one of, if not the, toughest regions in this year’s bracket, which features dangerous teams like Duke, Michigan State, and LSU. They also happen to be in the same bracket as fan-favorite to be a bracket buster, Belmont.

Their first worry, however, is getting past the Liberty Flames.

The Flames won the Atlantic Sun Tournament this year with a win over Lipscomb, and are sitting at 28 wins on the season. They are, perhaps, underrated in talent quality coming into this season’s bracket. They should prove enough of a challenge for us to see how this Bulldogs team will fare in the upcoming tournament.

The Bulldogs rely on bench depth for a lot of their scoring, with almost every player on their team averaging five minutes or more. Counting heavily on this depth can either lead to a team doing great things, or underperforming depending on consistency, but I’m keeping my money far away from this Mississippi State team in such a dangerous bracket, starting with game one.
