No. 8: LSU Tigers

If I said earlier that it pained me to add the Michigan State Spartans to this list, it hurts even more to add such an electrifying LSU team to the list.

However, without Head Coach Will Wade for the time being, I’ve got to add this team to the list. After bowing out early in the SEC Tournament, despite attaining the glorious No. 1 seed in one of the fastest developing basketball conferences in the country, it’s hard to see the Tigers living up to their No. 3 seed for the length of the tournament.

LSU, which finished with a 26-6 overall record including a 16-2 finish in SEC play, landed a favorable matchup in the first round, however, against the Yale Bulldogs.  If all goes to plan, even with the troubles on the current roster, the Tigers should be able to wade through this first round semi-easily thanks to an exorbitant amount of talent in players like Naz Reid, Tremont Waters and Javonte Smart.

Without Head Coach Will Wade, who recently declined to speak to both the media and school officials about a wiretapping incident involving players currently on the roster, it gets a bit harder to see this LSU team live up to the No. 3 seed they received, despite being a one-and-done in the SEC Tournament.

It’s not impossible for them to over-achieve, and make a deep run with the talent they have before losing a few players to the NBA and graduation, and maybe even a Head Coach to the situation. Interim Head Coach Tony Benford has his hands full of challenges ahead of the NCAA Tournament, but with a roster loaded with talent, it’s very possible they prove me wrong and navigate deep into the tournament.
