March Madness is a whirlwind of activity and it’s over before you know it. Soon it will be time for the 2019 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship game.
The Road to the Women’s Final Four begins on March 18 with the Women’s Selection Show. Once the field of 64 teams know where they’re going in the Big Dance, it’s time to kick off the phenomenon known as March Madness. Even with all of those games, though, the 2019 NCAA Women’s National Championship game will be here in a flash.
In 2019 the Women’s Final Four and the National Championship game will take place at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The last four teams of the tournament will face off in the Final Four on Friday, April 5, and the final two teams will meet at the National Championship on Sunday, April 7.
When it comes to the Men’s and Women’s Tournaments, the biggest difference is the consistency between the women’s teams that end up in the finals. The perennial powerhouse teams include 2018 National Champions Notre Dame, who defeated UConn in the Final Four and Mississippi State in the championship game to take home the title. All three of those teams are returning in 2019 along with Baylor and Stanford, two other teams that have a tendency to last to the Elite Eight.
The Selection Show on March 18 will reveal where the automatic qualifiers will land on the bracket while the remaining at-large bids will learn whether or not they’re going dancing.
First and Second Round action plays out March 22-25 at campus locations announced at the Selection Show. The weekend of March 29-April 1 will feature regionals in Albany, Chicago, Greensboro and Portland, and then the Final Four and National Championship games will play the following weekend.
Teams that don’t make it into the NCAA Women’s Tournament will have a chance to continue into the postseason with the National Invitation Tournament. Bids for the NIT will be announced shortly after the Selection Show on Monday.
